The Viaduct Trail
Discover one of Scotland’s most iconic sights up close on the Glenfinnan Viaduct Trail. This scenic walk offers stunning views of the world-famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, the surrounding mountains, and the tranquil waters of Loch Shiel.
Pick up a trail guide from the Museum Reception before you set out — it includes a detailed route map, as well as information on the local flora and fauna you might encounter along the way. Whether you’re a keen walker, a railway enthusiast, or simply looking to enjoy the beauty of the Highlands, the Viaduct Trail is a must-do experience.
See the Jacobite Steam Train
One of the highlights of the walk is watching the Jacobite Steam Train cross the Viaduct — an unforgettable sight made famous by the Harry Potter films. The train usually passes over the Viaduct at approximately:
- 10:45am
- 3:10pm
At certain times during the season, two steam trains operate each day. For the latest timetable, please visit the West Coast Railways website:

Please note that the steam train does not run every weekend throughout the season, so it’s best to check ahead before your visit.
